Ivory steps
This is a complete draft of the wedding processional I am composing for my bride-to-be for our upcoming March wedding.

This clip is owned and copyrighted by myself and cannot be used without my permission.
I recorded this clip using the Natural Grand Piano patch on the Yamaha S90ES.
This processional is meant to be the song playing when my bride walks down the aisle in her ivory dress. This song will follow Pachelbel’s Canon in D, and for that reason I composed this song in the same key.
The song revolves around the following chord progression:
|: G | D | G | F# | Em | G/D | A/C# | G/B - A7 :|
On the last pass through the progression above, the song goes to a D major to finish.
You may note that I include an F# instead of an F#m in the progression above; this was done to subtly break out of the key of D major and provide a “color” change in the sound while still allowing the song to easily return to the D major key.
Additionally, to help with the roundness of the progression when it repeats, you will notice that the bass tone steadily descends in the latter portion of the progression. This is especially pronounced beginning in the 5th measure of the progression where the bass note steps as follows: E – D – C# – B – A – and then slides right into G for the first chord when repeating the progression. When not repeating, the A7 easily resolves to the D major to end the song.
Both the harmonic progression and melody are not limited to the piano as I have presented in the clip above – the piano simply was a means to capture the principal elements of this composition and is the likely arrangement in which the song will be played at my wedding ceremony.
The song is still a draft (though close to complete), and I acknowledge that the clip is not perfect – it was meant to capture the essence of the composition. I will soon score the melody. Please leave me your comments, questions, criticisms, etc… below!
